  • Every 20 seconds, somewhere in the world, a lower limb is lost because of complications related to diabetes.
  • Approximately 85% of diabetes-related amputations are preceded by a foot ulcer.
  •  Most diabetic foot ulcers can be prevented through proper foot care and early intervention.

 If you are living with diabetes, even a small cut, blister, or callus can become a serious wound if it goes unnoticed or untreated. The good news is that many diabetic foot ulcers and other diabetes-related wounds are preventable through daily self-care, early detection, and proper blood sugar management.

This educational resource was created to help you understand your risk, recognize early warning signs, and learn simple steps to protect your skin and feet before a wound develops.
